Many people are struggling to find a job in our post-Covid world. But if the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that stability is a rare commodity.

1. Your Current Job May Not Exist by the End of the Year

You either have to create value for your company in a new way, which often means that you have to reinvent your role or position within the organization, or start looking at new opportunities…That means it is the perfect time for you to start something new. What have you always dreamed of doing but never thought possible? This is the year you can make it happen.
2. Change = New Opportunities
Here’s the good news: With so many industries changing, now is the perfect time to figure out where there is a gap in an area that you love and create a product or service that fills that gap. If you have a skill that people need or know of a product that you can sell online, start working on your idea. You will never know if you can do it until you try.
3. You Have More Time
Even when the pandemic is over, the world isn’t going back to what it was before; this is our new norm. Corporations will not be hiring like before and working from home will become more common. But here is the good news: For so many, the long commutes to and from an office are a way of the past. This gives you an incredible opportunity to begin a “side hustle” and take advantage of the extra time you have each day that used to be spent in traffic. Start building a new business that will transform your life.

Most people think that when the economy suffers, it is a bad time to start or scale a business — and that is simply not true. Some of the best businesses started or pivoted successfully in a down economy. Did you know that Netflix gained over 16MM new subscribers in 2020? The company started way back in 1997 when DVDs were first coming out, and they saw the opportunity to deliver content with what was replacing VHS back then. In 2000, they were offered $50 MM to be acquired by BlockBuster but they smartly turned that down. As Tom Peters once said, “If a window of opportunity appears, don’t pull down the shade.” Netflix took that to heart when they started their business in 1997 and continued to take advantage of every opportunity that came to reinvent themselves over and over again. 2021 is your year to take advantage of opportunity and build the business you’ve always dreamed of!
5. Talent Availability
There are so many talented people out there right now who are looking for jobs or people to collaborate with on starting something new. So take this time to choose people to join your team and help you build your dream business. Take the challenge, take initiative, and be the leader that people are looking for.
6. Digital is EVERYWHERE
The world was already digitalizing before the pandemic, but ever since Covid, people have to be digital now. For someone starting a business, that’s good news. Why? Because you can take advantage of the ease of access for digital platforms and start a business anywhere you want!
Let’s say you are really good at fixing smartphone screens — you can start a business at home in your garage! All you need is a way to market yourself and let the world know that your amazing skills are up for grabs. It’s even easier if you want to start a business that can function remotely – say you want to be a nutrition coach. While your preference may be working with clients face-to-face, there’s no reason to wait to start your business. Start working virtually, market yourself and your business really well and build up your client base, and eventually you’ll be able to switch to in-person. When I started my marketing agency, I had over 20 years of business leadership, sales, and marketing skills but I didn’t know how to use any of the tech. You don’t have to be a tech genius to learn one aspect of digital marketing and then start making money on platforms like Upwork, Freelance.com, or Fiverr.
